Portuguese tannery exports increased by 5.8% year on year up to September 2025, reaching €81 million, according to figures from the APICCAPS research office.

Spain remained the largest destination despite a 4.6% decline to €17 million, while exports to Italy rose by 8.7% to €13 million and shipments to France increased by 31.2% to €11 million.

APICCAPS said the results reflect recovering external demand and continued efforts by the sector to modernise production and meet international quality and sustainability requirements. Commenting on the role of leather, president Luís Onofre said: “Leather is undoubtedly the best raw material on the market.”

The association added that export growth supports the wider production chain by helping to secure the supply of high-quality raw materials for domestic manufacturers.
