No October relief for tanning sector in China

Figures from the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) show that, in the first ten months of this year, major leather manufacturing companies across the country generated revenues of just over $6 billion. 

CLIA said this figure represented a fall of 10.4% compared to the same months in 2024.

In the January-October period this year, tanners in China imported nearly 1.2 million tonnes of raw hides and skins, with a total value of $930, million. These figures mean a fall of 4.3% in volume and of 16.4% in value.

Tanners also brought 487,000 tonnes of semi-finished leather into the country, with a value $710 million, down by 5.7% and 17.1%, respectively.

Imports of finished leather reached a volume of 30,000 tonnes over the ten-month period, costing $470 million, declines of 15.6% in volume and of 16.5% in value.
