Footwear figures show steep drop in imports of leather shoes into China
Chinese footwear companies exported just over 6 billion pairs in the first eight months of 2025, bringing in revenues of nearly $29 billion.
Volumes were down by 1.4%, but revenues fell by 8.5% year on year.
Exports of leather shoes in the eight-month period amounted to 350 million pairs, which brought in revenues of just over $5 billion.
These figures represent falls of 2.5% in volume and of 6.9% in value compared to the January-August period in 2024.
In terms of imports over the same period, 120 million pairs came into China, with a value of more than $3.6 billion. Of these 35.4 million pairs were made of leather. These had a value of nearly $1.6 billion.
Imported shoes in general were down by 12.1% in volume and by 8.9% in value year on year. Imports of leather shoes were down by 21.3% in volume and by 18.4% in value.
