Indonesia: Hardy UK to set up new distribution network
Specialist supplier of shaving and fleshing blades to the tanning industry Hardy UK is working to set up a new distribution channel for its products in Indonesia.
This follows an internal investigation into the set-up the company had in place in that market previously.
Hardy UK has told leatherbiz that its investigation has resulted in a clear conclusion. It said it has definitive evidence that counterfeit products disguised as genuine Hardy blades, were being delivered to some customers.
It explained that genuine Hardy blades have a stamp in the metal showing the brand’s name and a batch number. These were missing from the counterfeit products that came to light during the investigation in Indonesia. A forged sticker was the only means of linking the fake blades to Hardy UK.
The company said this practice was unfair to customers in tanneries who believed they were buying genuine Hardy products. It added that what had happened was also of detriment to the brand.
