LWG opens consultation on labour and social responsibility section

03/11/2025
The Leather Working Group (LWG) has opened a public consultation on the Labour and Social Responsibility section of its forthcoming Leather Production Standard.

The section sets out requirements on social and labour practices developed with input from brands, tanneries, and NGOs. It is intended to apply to organisations of different sizes, with assessments adjusted according to company scale.

Social responsibility, which previously appeared as a non-scoring section under Protocol 7, will become a scored component in the Leather Production Standard and will contribute to medal ratings.

The Labour and Social Responsibility section was not part of the initial draft of the Leather Production Standard. LWG is inviting stakeholders to review and provide feedback on this new section by December 28, 2025.

Consultation documents are available on the Standards Development page of the LWG website. Queries can be sent to standards@leatherworkinggroup.com
