Market Intelligence: Some positive signs in China

We published the newest edition of our Leatherbiz Market Intelligence newsletter on September 2.

As the industry prepares for the 2025 edition of the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai, the newsletter says it expects no major moves in the market in immediate response to discussions at the event, but it is positive to some extent about the way the market for leather is going in China.

“The Chinese government is currently doing everything it can to stimulate local consumption,” the report says.

It points out that recent developments in the stock market in China have been positive, and that consumers are more likely to spend if they are optimistic about the state of the economy.

Market Intelligence says car sales are a good example. Vehicle sales are developing “very positively”, it insists, and this is good news for leather, which plays a more prominent role in the automotive industry in China than it does in Europe, for example.
