The original Hermès Birkin bag, famously made for and used by the late actor and singer Jane Birkin, is to be auctioned at Sotheby’s in Paris this summer.

Part of the auction house’s Fashion Icons sale, the leather handbag will be available to bidders from June 26 to July 10. Sotheby’s has not disclosed a price estimate, but says details are available on request.

Unlike later models, this original Birkin was created specifically for Jane Birkin herself and differs slightly in design from the now iconic version that has become one of the world’s most sought-after luxury accessories.

The bag, held by a private collector, was recently on display at Sotheby’s New York headquarters.
