Industry leaders acknowledge tariffs would be a concern but emphasise that Australian meat remains in high demand globally.
Red Meat Advisory Council Chair, John McKillop, said industry is engaged with government partners to ensure a coordinated response.
“We ask all stakeholders to remain calm and wait for official announcements,” McKillop said.
Australian Meat Industry Council CEO, Tim Ryan, noted that Australian meat, particularly lean trim, is vital to US burger production and any tariffs would impact American consumers.
Cattle Australia Chair, Garry Edwards, highlighted that Australian beef complements US supply, particularly high-quality grassfed steaks.
Sheep Producers Australia CEO, Bonnie Skinner, reinforced that Australian lamb remains a staple in international markets, including the US.
Industry leaders stress that Australian exporters have a track record of managing trade disruptions and will respond as necessary.
