SCRD Plants 1.5 million trees
For the eighth consecutive year, French vegetable tannin producer SCRD has reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations' Great African Green Wall initiative, successfully planting nearly 1.5 million trees to date.
This ambitious project, launched by the African Union in 2007, aims to combat desertification, restore 100 million hectares of degraded land, and create 10 million green jobs across the Sahel region by 2030.
The Great Green Wall initiative focuses on improving food security and promoting sustainable land use in an area that is critically vulnerable to desertification. By sequestering an estimated 250 million tonnes of carbon, the project also plays a vital role in addressing climate change.
Despite facing numerous challenges, SCRD said they remain dedicated to its efforts. The organisation has stated its intention to continue contributing to this transformative initiative, reinforcing its role in the global fight against desertification and environmental degradation.
