Design school partnership for Spoor
Traceable leather supplier Spoor has formed a new partnership with the Kolding School of Design.
The school, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree qualifications in fashion, textiles and accessory design, puts emphasis on environmental responsibility and high-quality materials. It offers students the opportunity to explore and understand the entire manufacturing process, from raw material to finished product. As part of this commitment it runs its own leather studio.
As part of the new partnership, Spoor will now supply material for students to use in the leather studio at the Kolding School of Design, with all of the leather traceable back to the farm where the animal was born.
This is part of a broader focus on integrating material understanding and sustainable craftsmanship traditions more fully into design education, the school said.
Doctoral student Line Rumhult commented that designers have a responsibility to ensure transparency regarding the materials they use. “It is crucial to respect the origin of materials and understand how they are created,” she continued. “This approach aligns with the craft traditions we want to pass on to our students, while also meeting the growing consumer demand for full transparency.”
For her part, Spoor’s business development director, Birgitte Langer, said she welcomed the opportunity to share with students “everything behind responsible Danish leather production”.
She added that Spoor also welcomed the prospect of feedback and questions from students that she described as “the future of Danish and international design”.
