TLIA completes leather industry sustainability assessment
13/09/2024
The assessment utilised primary data from 10 manufacturing plants to ensure accuracy. It analysed 33 leather products, reviewed 924 chemical products used in production, and examined 77 tanning recipes. Additionally, 620 operations within the production cycle were mapped to identify areas for potential improvement.
The findings of this project are expected to contribute to reducing the environmental footprint of leather production. The results will be presented at the Lineapelle fair in Milan from 17-19 September 2024, where the tanneries will showcase their sustainable products and innovations.
TLIA states that the initiative reflects the industry’s efforts to improve sustainability practices.
