Minister supports Pakistan leather industry

The Pakistan Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, met with the Pakistan Leather and Footwear Council, marking the first direct engagement by a federal minister with the sector’s council.

Minister Khan emphasised the role of sectoral councils in shaping policy and stressed the need for collaboration with industry leaders. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the leather industry, citing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s dedication to providing industry incentives.

Chaudhry Zulifqar Hayat, Chairman of the council, welcomed the minister’s involvement. The meeting addressed key concerns, including tariffs and liquidity issues, with Minister Khan announcing initiatives like establishing warehouses abroad to support small businesses. The session concluded with a commitment to bolstering the leather and footwear industry.
