Carbon tool can now include data on entire Spoor leather collection

A Denmark-based consultancy that works with furniture and interior design companies to help them lower their environmental footprint is now making it easier for customers to access specific carbon footprint information about leather.

Specialist carbon footprint consultancy Målbar has developed a climate screening tool that can steer furniture manufacturers and brands towards greater transparency and product sustainability.

Now, companies can use the tool to assess the specific carbon footprint of the entire Spoor leather collection and establish precise CO2-equivalent data for each article.

Spoor has said it can supply a special new component to allow users of the Målbar tool to access the information. It will mean, the leather supplier said, that customers will no longer need to rely on generic CO2-equivalent data for leather when making their material choices. It added that the data is being continuously updated.

A spin-off from wet blue and wet-white producer Scan-Hide, Spoor uses a laser-based system for marking and identifying hides. The identification marking remains in place after leather finishing, allowing Spoor to bring to market fully traceable Scandinavian leather.

At the time of the Målbar announcement, Spoor said providing finished product companies with this level of traceability and “much more accurate” climate figures, based on primary data, was “an important step forward”.
