New website showcases Italian tanning sustainability
The Italian tanning industry has launched a new website dedicated to showcasing its commitment to sustainability on environmental, social, and ethical levels. The Sustainability Report website by UNIC is now live, providing a dynamic and comprehensive communication tool organised according to ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) criteria.
The website aims to make information accessible to a wide audience, including media, institutions, and consumers seeking general information, as well as offering in-depth studies for technical researchers, customers, and industry experts. Visitors can access the latest data and time series on various topics such as resource consumption, product and process circularity, energy efficiency, raw materials, social commitment, health and safety, and training.
Additionally, the site covers ongoing and completed activities related to key sustainability issues in the tanning sector, including chemical management with a focus on chromium VI, LCA/environmental footprint, traceability, deforestation, cultural projects, terminology, recovery of tanning waste, and exotic leathers.
This digital platform consolidates two decades of sustainability data previously published in the UNIC Sustainability Report in paper and PDF forms. The website will be updated annually with the latest data from collaborating member companies.
Commenting on the launch, UNIC President Fabrizio Nuti stated, "Now, we are raising the bar, choosing to create a more punctual, flexible and accessible communication tool – this website – in which to convey all the information, data, projects, activities, and best practices that have made up the report over all these years."
Currently available in Italian, the website is set to launch an English version by Septembe 2024.
