Student wins award for sustainable fashion

De Montfort University (DMU) Contour Fashion student Funmi Ogundimu has won the prestigious Skin Innovation Award from the Worshipful Company of Curriers for her sustainable final collection.

She impressed judges with her designs, which used leather from an old family sofa and demonstrated creativity and a strong emphasis on sustainability.

The Curriers, a historic livery company dating back to 1272, visited De Montfort University (DMU) for the first time to evaluate student work. Miss Funmi received a £1,000 (€1200) prize from Master Currier Ian Michel, who praised her understanding of leather and innovative reuse of the material, highlighting her commitment to circularity.

Miss Funmi recently showcased her designs at DMU’s Contour Fashion catwalk and spoke positively about her time at DMU, complimenting the facilities, staff support, and friendships she formed. She is set to graduate in September.
