VDA calls for calm on China-EU trade dispute

Germany’s national automotive industry organisation VDA has added its voice to those urging the European Union and China to reach agreement on trade in cars and avoid tariffs.

On July 5, the EU provisionally put in place countervailing tariffs of up to 37.6% on imports of electric vehicles from China.

In a statement, VDA president, Hildegard Müller, said: “A possible global trade conflict must be averted. The countervailing duties now provisionally imposed by the EU will not solve the challenges facing the European and German automotive industry.”

She said global problems can only be solved with China.
