12th FILK Freiberg leatherdays begins

The 12th Frieberg Leatherdays, organised by Germany’s Leather Technicians and Chemists Association (VGCT) and the FILK Freiberg Institute, started on June 12.

The event took place at the Imaluer Hotel, Pitter in Salzburg, Austria, and was attended by over 200 delegates from more than 20 countries, including Australia, New Zealand and Argentina.

The keynote presentation focused on pastoralism, a sustainable and nature-positive production system centered around herding livestock in open landscapes. It was presented by Mascha Kaddori, a veterinarian and policy advisor for One Health and also a member of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany (VSFG).

The presentation highlighted pastoralism's role in sustainable land management, biodiversity promotion, and support for rural livelihoods worldwide.

VSFG is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to improving animal health, food security, and the livelihoods of pastoralist communities in East Africa. Their projects focus on enabling these communities to maintain their traditional way of living in harmony with their animals and environment through a One Health approach
