Why Europe must develop a strategy for sustainable livestock value chains

Multi-stakeholder group European Livestock Voice has said it hopes “for more understanding” of the livestock sector from the new group of members of the European Parliament that will take office after elections in June.

“It’s time for the European Union to recognise that agriculture, and more precisely the livestock value chain, is about more than just farming,” it said. “We all rely on the livestock value chain every day of the year for food, clothing, fertiliser, medicines, everyday care products, maintaining the landscape and even travel. We all depend on farmed animals.”

It called on new members of the parliament to develop a European strategy for sustainable livestock value chains.
