Fall in Pakistan’s leather-sector exports causes ‘significant concern’
Industry figures in Pakistan have described the leather industry’s export revenues as a significant concern.
In the first ten months of the country’s current financial year, from July 2023 to April 2024, Pakistan’s leather sector brought in export revenues of $698.5 million. This figure represents a decline of 9.7% compared to the same period in the previous financial year.
The local industry has attributed this decline to high costs and sluggish demand worldwide.
Exports of finished leather fell in value by almost 20% to reach $113.2 million, while for garments, bags and gloves, the decline was of 6.2% to reach $452.5 million. Footwear exports fell by 2.6% to $132.8 million.
