International group gathers in Baeza for specialist CITES course
A total of more than 30 students from around the world recently travelled to Spain to take part in the in-person phase of the 2024 international master’s course in management and conservation of species in trade.
The course, which is taking place for the fifteenth time this year, aims to enhance the expertise of professionals engaged in the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
In-person learning is taking place at the International University of Andalusia’s campus in Baeza and will run until the end of June. The course itself, including the online learning segments, will run until September.
CITES said Argentina, China, Cuba, Kenya, the Solomon Islands, Suriname and Togo were among the countries represented among participants this year.
Head of outreach for CITES, Haruko Okusu, said: “Through this course, the participants will become part of the valuable source of knowledge and expertise in their own countries. They will also help build up a cross-border network of wildlife authorities.”
