ISA Nextgen joins climate initiative
Tannery group ISA has recently become a member of the international "4 per 1000" Initiative, which seeks to promote the idea that agriculture, and particularly agricultural soils, can play a critical role in food security and climate change.
The announcement said that preserving soil health has become a significant strategy in slowing down climate change, and as a part of the leather industry, which stems from the livestock and agricultural sectors, ISA recognised the importance of maintaining unity across the entire value chain to achieve shared objectives.
The International “4 per 1000” Initiative encourages stakeholders to transition towards a regenerative, productive, highly resilient agriculture, based on appropriate land and soil management, which creates jobs and income and leads to sustainable development.
The Initiative aims to demonstrate that agriculture can offer practical solutions to the challenges posed by climate change while ensuring food security through the implementation of agricultural practices adapted to local conditions, such as agroecology, agroforestry, conservation agriculture, and landscape management.
