Q1 figures show the resilience of Brazilian industry, CICB says
Official figures from Brazil show that packers and tanners there exported hides and finished leather worth $312.3 million in the first quarter of 2024. This is an increase of 12.3% compared to the same period last year.
They shipped material with a total area of 46.1 million square-metres to customers overseas in the course of the first three months of this year, up by 17.6% year on year.
The figures come from the ministry of external commerce. In its analysis of the data, national leather industry organisation CICB found that 47.7% of the value of exports in the first quarter had come from finished leather, 28.8% from wet blue, 12.1% from crust and 9.7% from wet blue split.
In terms of area, finished leather accounted for 36.7% of the total, while wet blue’s share was 52.6%, and crust’s 10.5%.
CICB said the industry in Brazil had shown its resilience in the face of a challenging global market.
