Organisers of the 12th Freiberg Leatherdays, to be held on June 12 and 13, have told Leatherbiz that the programme is almost finalised.

Themes and Trends for the 2024 event include:

Sustainability and Environmental Impact: The program emphasises sustainable production systems, carbon footprint reduction, and the use of bio-based chemicals to minimise environmental impact.

Quality Assurance and Innovation: Discussions cover a range of innovative techniques for testing leather quality, evaluating odour emissions, and quantifying specific substances in leather processing.

Biodegradability and Sustainability: Advances in the leather industry focus on enhancing biodegradability, sustainability, and reducing environmental risks, aligning with global trends towards eco-friendly practices.

Technology Integration: Integration of technology, such as LASER technology for traceability and automation for quality control, is highlighted as a means to improve efficiency and animal welfare standards.

Education and Training: The importance of ongoing education and training in the leather industry is underscored, indicating a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

The Freiberg Leather Days is a bi-annual event that has been bringing together experts, researchers and specialists from the European tanning and leather industry since 2012. This event is organised by VGCT and FILK and is held alternatively in Freiberg and abroad. This year, the event will be held in Salzburg, Austria, at the invitation of VÖLT.
