The report confirms a long-running trend of uncertainty in the leather pipeline owing to a lack of orders.

Even in Asia, where tanneries have been busier, commentary from people in the industry indicates significantly lower incoming orders for the months ahead, even taking into account that this is traditionally the start of the quietest period for many tanners in the northern hemisphere.

In Europe, the orders that tanners do have to work on offer few grounds for optimism. The report says these are mostly for small quantities, with extremely short delivery times and no reliable information about what will happen in the coming months.
