French leather manufacturer Tannerie Sovos has paid tribute to one of its key workers, Dominique Galmiche, who retires on March 29.

Mr Galmiche began working at the tannery, located in Le Thillot in the Vosges region of France, at the age of 16 and stayed there for 44 years, devoting his entire career to one company.

Tannerie Sovos said Dominique Galmiche had become a reference point for preserving tanning savoir-faire for colleagues in other parts of the region and other parts of France, as well as inside the company.

But it said that he had also devoted seven years to passing on all of his knowledge of leather manufacturing to colleagues inside the company.
