Traceable leather resonates with Scandinavian design values

Danish furniture and interior design company Bolia has introduced a curated leather collection from Spoor as one of the material options for its spring 2024 collection.

The Aarhus-based company has presented the material, Quattro by Spoor, as chrome-free, biodegradable, premium leather, with each piece traceable from farm to finished product.

Spoor, a spin-off from wet blue and wet-white producer Scan-Hide, uses a laser-based system for marking and identifying hides. The identification marking remains in place after leather finishing.

Finished product manufacturers, brands and consumers can use the information to find out the full back story of the leather in the products they are making or buying, including the country of origin, the breed and the birthplace of the individual animal the material came from.

Bolia product manager, Uffe Ørum, said the design company places great importance on transparency and traceability. “We draw inspiration from nature and strive to use natural, raw materials of prime quality,” he said. “These values resonate in our designs, reflecting simplicity, craftsmanship, functionality and beauty.”

He said these qualities sum up “the essence of Scandinavian design”.
