Leather’s ‘permanent priorities’ are paramount at PV

Première Vision opened its doors on February 6, with the event running until February 8 at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre.

A main focus in the leather segment of the show is “tomorrow’s leather industry”. The organisers have explained: “Today’s leather industry is facing new challenges that go well beyond the technical issues tanners and their partners have always surmounted, thanks to their extraordinary inventivity and adaptability.”

They added that expectations in terms of quality and volume, the preservation of land and ecosystems, and environmental and traceability issues are becoming “permanent priorities for the leather industry”.

Première Vision has said it will now seek to integrate “issues and solutions destined to shape tomorrow’s leather industry” into its overall approach to the sector, including new technologies, advances in agriculture, approaches to climate change and more.

The show’s Leather Hub showcases exhibitors’ latest innovations, while the Industry Innovation Hub provides an area for companies specialising in agriculture, the environment and specialist technologies to present their solutions.

This time, there is also a section called Les Tanneurs Français, which the organisers describe as “a village grouping 14 French tanneries and [industry body] the French Federation of Tanners under a single banner”.

In parallel, students from the Institut Français de la Mode are exhibiting leathergoods projects, created using leathers from French tanners.

Leather also features on the event’s conference programme, with Gruppo Mastrotto’s Stefania Federigi delivering a presentation on leather’s status as a circular, sustainable, long-lasting material.
