President of Mongolia visits shoe and leather producers

According to a report from Mongolian news agency Montsame, the President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, recently visited Buligaar JSC, a company specialising in shoe upper material production, leather processing, and foreign trade. They sell a variety of leather products using their own semi and fully-processed hides and skins, both domestically and internationally.

The visit was part of a larger tour of the light industry sector, which is home to over 3,200 enterprises and factories operating in fields such as wool, cashmere, leather, and wood. Approximately 44,000 people are employed in this sector. According to statistics, the export of the light industry reached $508 million, while the import was $703 million by the end of 2022.

T. Bayarsaikhan, the executive director of the Mongolian Association of Leather Industry, mentioned that if the leather processing industry were to receive extensive support, similar to other national campaigns, and social security contributions were renegotiated, then the light industry could potentially be developed as a cluster.

During his visit, the President also visited Khos Az and MARIS LLC. Khos Az is a shoe factory that can manufacture 100,000 pairs of shoes annually. They specialise in producing special protection boots for various organisations including the Ministry of Defence and the National Police Agency.  These specialised boots make up approximately 80% of their total shoe production.
