Road to circularity docuseries launched by Coachtopia
Coach's sub-brand, Coachtopia, has recently launched a new docuseries named "The Road to Circularity".
The show's first episode focuses on circular fashion, highlighting KH Exports, a leather manufacturer in India that has been working with Coach since 1987. The episode showcases the possibilities of creating with waste, following KH's craft processes: from the careful sorting of waste in its "leather scrap yard" to further design, prototyping and production.
The waste, from leather originally produced for Coach and ranging from large panels to small off-cuts, is repurposed as a valuable raw material in the form of patchwork panels, mosaic-style sheets, and intricate interlocking designs for innovative and unique productions.
In the first episode of the series named "Making with Waste", Aditi Mayer, a sustainable fashion advocate and Coachtopia community member, hosts the show. Mayer expressed that Coachtopia's journey began with the goal of minimising the use of virgin raw materials in fashion. The experience of exploring this objective has been enlightening as it highlighted how circularity in fashion requires a cultural shift in how we perceive waste. This new culture demands that brands and storytellers alike promote and celebrate a more sustainable approach towards fashion.
