Toyota announces production decision following Noto earthquake
Automotive group Toyota has announced that it will run production at its factories in Japan during the week commencing January 8.
It said it had only made this decision “after much consideration” following the fatal earthquakes that Japan suffered at the start of the year.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter Scale hit the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture on January 1; many aftershocks followed and there have been more than 160 fatalities.
Toyota expressed its condolences for all those affected and said many of its local suppliers and their affiliates had been affected. However, it said it had decided to run production, using parts it has in stock outside the affected areas.
It said it would make a new assessment for the week commencing January 15 because aftershocks are still continuing in the Noto region.
