IULTCS pinpoints objectives for next two years

05/01/2024

The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) has announced that a focus on the XXXVIII IULTCS Congress in September 2025 in Lyon, France, will drive the next two years’ objectives for the organisation.

These objectives include reviewing and updating its governing documents to align with needs, empowering the role of existing IULTCS commissions, and exploring the establishment of a new commission for sustainability to address emerging challenges and drive positive change within the industry.

IULTCS also aims to communicate widely about leather’s status as an irreplaceable material, push back against untruths shared on social media, promote global collaboration for research and innovation in leather technology, and support education and skill development within the leather sector.

It also intends to cultivate the next generation of leather scientists and professionals through youth engagement initiatives and mentorship programs. Additionally, it pledges to promote environmental stewardship and responsible practices along the leather value chain.

IULTCS recognised and valued the exemplary contribution of outgoing IULTCS president, Jean-Pierre Gualino, during the last two years and thanked him for his support in organising the upcoming congress in Lyon.

Dr Joan Carles Castell of Proviera is the new IULTCS president.
