No respite for Pakistan leather sector
Pakistan’s Bureau of Statistics has reported export revenues of $358.7 million for the leather and footwear sector in the first five months of the current financial year, the period from July to November. This represents a fall of 13% year on year.
Shipments of finished leather declined in value by 25% year on year, reaching $55.9 million for the period. Leathergoods brought in $240 million, down by 8.2%.
Exports of footwear brought in $62.6 million, down 16.6%, although there are reports of volumes increasing.
