CLE and Solidaridad sign MoU

The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and Solidaridad Regional Expertise Centre (SREC) have joined forces to strengthen the Indian leather industry. This five-year partnership will be effective from January 1, 2024, till  December 31, 2028, and its main objective is to train and enhance the skills of the tannery workforce. CLE will provide support in terms of training, workshops, engaging with stakeholders, and contributing towards the development and promotion of a Leather Portal that promotes green and circular leather practices. On the other hand, SREC will bring in a wealth of experience in sustainable practices across various leather geographies.

CLE and Solidaridad have signed the Memorandum of Understanding  (MoU) to lead the Indian leather and footwear industry towards a more sustainable future. The partnership aims to train 150,000 workers, build capacities, and foster partnerships that drive innovation and sustainability. Over the next five years, the CLE is targeting a $47-billion business by 2030. The collaboration will also focus on the 7S strategy - sustainability, scale, skill, speed, supply chain, sales, and style

Solidaridad and CLE have already collaborated on projects that led to progress in water optimisation, effluent reduction, circularity, GHG emission reduction, and digital tool integration. These initiatives demonstrate the commitment of both organisations to drive sustainable change in the Indian Leather Industry.
