New figures from the US show exports of 23.8 million hides in the first ten months of 2023. These shipments brought in revenues of $935.3 million.

These figures represent a fall of 8% in volume and of 13.7% in value compared to the same months last year.

As we saw earlier in the year, the brightest spot for the US hide market has been an increase in the volume of wet-salted hides going to China. These exports are up by 8% in volume to reach just over 14 million, and have risen by 2% in volume to reach $418 million.

So far in 2023, Chinese tanners have paid an average of $29.85 to import a wet-salted hide from the US. In the same period last year, the average price was $31.67.
