High female figures catch the eye in Argentina cattle slaughter
The beef industry in Argentina registered the slaughter of nearly 12.2 million head of cattle in the first ten months of 2023. The figure comes from the meat sector’s national representative body, CICCRA.
It said this year’s figure was up by 9.2% compared to the figure for the first ten months of 2022.
Industry commentators have noted that, while the slaughter of male animals was up by 3.4% year on year (with contractions in recent months), the increase for female cattle was 16.2%.
CICCRA noted that, in the month of October, female cattle’s share of the total slaughter was 50.6%, which it said was a record. It said this trend would lead to “future supply being compromised”.
