Upholstery leather supplier completes solar energy project
Specialist supplier of Italian-tanned hides for upholstery applications Garrett Leather has completed the installation of solar panels on the roof of its corporate headquarters in Buffalo, New York.
It said this move would reduce its environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. It said the 300 solar panels would generate almost 170 megawatts of renewable energy per year at the site, allowing it to lower its carbon emissions by 120 tonnes per year. It said this would have the same effect as planting almost 60 hectares of forest per year.
Garrett moved into its current headquarters in 2016. The facility covers more than 7,000 square-metres and has more than 2 million square-feet of finished upholstery leather in stock.
