Construction of new Audi plant in China will be complete this year
Automotive group Audi has said it is on track to complete the construction of a new factory in China by the end of 2023.
The new facility, located in Changchun in the north-eastern province of Jilin, will produce only all-electric Audi cars, starting with three models from the A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron series. Testing at the site will begin in 2024, with production scheduled to commence before the end of next year. By spring 2025, the first cars produced at the new factory will come onto the market.
Run by joint-venture company Audi FAW NEV, the plant will have the capacity to produce 150,000 vehicles per year.
The group has said a large proportion of suppliers will be located within 30 kilometres of the new factory. It is developing a supplier park next to the facility.
In comments about recent progress at the site, the chief executive of Audi FAW NEV, Helmut Stettner, said: “We are also establishing a comprehensive industrial ecosystem centered around our new plant in Changchun. It will drive improvements throughout the supply chain and advance the region’s economic development.”
