An international congress on leather innovation opened in Izmir on November 23, running for two days.

This was the seventh time the Turkish city has hosted the technical conference.

After the opening ceremony, the secretary general of COTANCE, the representative body for leather in the European Union, Gustavo González-Quijano, gave a keynote address on recent developments in legislation that will affect the leather industry, including deforestation, labelling and sustainability.

A series of technical presentations from representatives of research institutions around the world and of major leather chemicals manufacturers followed.
