Turkey: cheaper skins, but all other garment nappa costs have gone up

19/10/2023

Leather industry commentators in Turkey have said sheepskins now account for between 40% and 45% of the cost of the production of garment nappa, whereas seven years ago, the figure was between 60% and 65%.

A decrease in demand for finished garment nappa has led to a decrease in demand for sheepskins and, therefore, the price has gone down.

However, the same commentators have pointed out that now, in the second half of 2023, the cost of energy, water, chemicals, labour and wastewater treatment processes have all gone up.
