Bangladesh – Ten countries import lions share of leather products

Industry stakeholders at the 4th Bangladesh Leather Footwear & Leathergoods International Sourcing Show (BLISS) noted that in the fiscal year 2022-23, ten countries imported nearly 80% of Bangladesh's leather products, including footwear.
Emphasising the need for market diversification to reduce the risk of export losses, stakeholders suggested that Bangladesh should join the global value chain and expand its reach through market diversification and improved competitiveness.
Bangladesh has already identified 12-14 countries for bilateral trade agreements. The stakeholders agreed that foreign direct investment in the leather sector is crucial for increasing capital and technology.
