During the inauguration of the 4th Bangladesh Leather Footwear and Leather Goods International Sourcing Show (BLLISS-2023), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the formation of a separate leather industry development authority.

The authority aims to enhance the country's leather and leather goods sector

The Prime Minister stated that her government has plans to develop area-based tannery industries in different regions of the country, including Chattogram and Rajshahi, in phases. She believes that this will lead to a considerable increase in the preservation, processing, and use of leather, making it a significant industry for Bangladesh.

The BLLISS-2023 event is being held at International Convention City Bashundhara until October 14.
