Turkish tanning clusters ripe for investment, ICT president says
The president of the International Council of Tanners (ICT), Bekir Burak Uyguner, has told media in his home country, Turkey, that investors should provide capital for expansion in the industry there.
He argued that investment that would allow for an expansion in production capacity at just two of the industry clusters in Turkey could bring 10% growth in the Turkish leather industry’s exports each year.
If this happens, Mr Uyguner, who is also president of the Turkish Leather Industrialists’ Association, said exports would increase from around $2 billion per year now to $3 billion five years from now.
Turkey has tanning clusters at Tuzla-Istanbul, Menemen-Izmir, Bursa, Gerede-Bolu, Corlu-Tekirdag, and Usak.
