Import of live cattle and buffalo from Australia have been halted by the Malaysian authorities following concerns of the detection of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in Indonesia, as reported by Reuters

A statement given by Australia’s chief veterinary officer, Mark Schipp said "We understand this decision was based on Indonesia's advice that they will not accept cattle from four specific export establishments following detection of LSD in exported Australian cattle after they had arrived and spent time in Indonesia,"

Schipp and his department were said to be finalising health status investigations of the impacted cattle and confirmed that Australia was free of LSD and that cattle exports to Indonesia from other facilities were ongoing.

LSD, a highly infectious viral disease, causes blisters and reduces milk production is transmitted by insect bites but poses no risk to humans.
