Funding for livestock projects in Mauritania
Mauritania is to receive around $750,000 from the African Development Fund to develop livestock farming in the north-west African state.
Economy minister, Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, said a lack of infrastructure and conflicts around natural resources have hindered the development of livestock farming in Mauritania.
He explained that the money from the African Development Fund would pay for improvement projects that will address these challenges.
Between 60% and 70% of the country’s population generates most of its income from rearing livestock and the sector accounts for nearly 10% of Mauritania’s gross domestic product.
