Brazil: hide imports fall in first half of 2023
National tanning industry body CICB has reported a decline in the volume and the value of hide imports into Brazil in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year.
Tanners in Brazil imported 26,200 tonnes of hides during the six-month period with a value of $34.6 million. These figures represent reductions of 23.9% and 27.5% year on year respectively.
Two Brazilian states, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná, account for 82% of all hide imports in terms of value and 90% in terms of volume.
The US and Uruguay were Brazil’s two biggest suppliers of imported hides in January-June 2023.
