Mercedes-Benz partners with Soex in safety footwear recycling

Following a pilot trial in May, automotive group Mercedes-Benz has moved forward with recycling company Soex to recycle used safety footwear from their Sindelfin factory.

Soex, a certified recycling company specialising in shoe recycling, in Wolfen, Germany, diverts the waste from landfill or incineration allowing the leather, rubber and metal to be re-used. In collaboration, Mercede-Benz and Soex hope to save 25,000 pairs of safety shoes from incineration each year. With safety shoes primarily consisting of only four components, separation is somewhat simplified compared to other styles of footwear.

In conjunction with their English partner In-Cycle and French company Eco TLC the Soex shoe recycling plant separates the leather, rubber, metal parts, and scraps from zippers and fabrics to be used as raw materials for making other products.
