Eid al Adha growth for Pakistan

Pakistan Tanners are likely to receive more hides and skins after this year’s Eid al Adha festival than last year’s.

According to the former chairman of the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) and Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Danish Khan, people in the country sacrificed 2.3 to 2.4 million head of the cattle for the festival, compared 2 million or 2.1 million head at last year’s festival.

Goat slaughter is likely to have reached between 3.4 million and 3.5 million hea compared to a maximum of 3.2 million head last year. Lamb slaughter is likely to have been between 1.2 million and 1.4 million head this year, and camel slaughter around 100,000 head. 

Mr Khan told media in Pakistan that the leather industry would achieve export revenues of around $125 million from the finished leather, garments, gloves and other products the industry will make from Eid al Adha raw material.
