Australia: red meat exports remain strong

The export of red meat from Australia has reached levels not seen since 2020, Meat and Livestock Australia have reported.

Figures for June saw a red meat exports rise to 160,393 tonnes, an increase of 24%  from June last year. Figures showed beef exports rising by 18%, lamb 15% with mutton surging by 74%.

Largest market overall saw China taking 35,251 tonnes of exports, whilst for beef alone, the US now represents the largest export market, having seen an 89% year-on-year increase to 20,584 tonnes and a return to the top spot for the first time in three years. Exports to China and Indonesia also rose by 40% and 43% respectively, while exports to Japan fell by 16% and exports to South Korea grew by 3%.
