Three-year extension for TFL-Dow distribution deal

Leather chemicals manufacturer TFL continues to be the exclusive distributor for resale of tanning and finishing products developed for the leather market by Dow. In a new announcement, TFL said the deal will hold for another three years.

Included in the deal are leather finishing products in the Rosilk, Hydrholac, Opti-Matt, Primal and Acrysol ranges, and products for wet-end processes in the Lubritan and Leukotan ranges.

Dow established a distribution deal with Lanxess in 2017 for leather products it had developed. After TFL’s acquisition of the Lanxess organic leather chemical division in 2021, it was TFL that took over responsibility for distributing Dow’s leather products.

TFL said this new, three-year agreement would mean the continuation of a successful relationship that began more than 25 years ago. The original distribution agreement began in 1997 between Bayer, before its leather business was spun off to form Lanxess in 2005, and Rohm & Haas, which was acquired by Dow in 2009.

“Recent years have demonstrated the importance of close collaboration among members of the value chain,” said TFL’s head of product management, Bianca Verstegen. “To achieve the increased sustainability goals that the industry, brands and consumers are looking for, it is essential that global partners with assets and technical expertise around the globe work together.”

For her part, Dow’s market leader for leather, Isabelle Riff, said the relationship gave the US company “greater insights into the needs at the very end of the value chain”.
