Mexico claims to be the world’s biggest producer of automotive leather

Mexico’s overseas trade promotions body, COFOCE, has said the country is now the world’s largest producer of automotive leather. The country’s Association of Industrial Supplier Companies (APIMEX) shared the detail when reporting the value of Mexico’s leather exports for 2022.
APIMEX president, Fernando Padilla, confirmed that a majority of leather manufacturers in the state of Guanajuato, who are responsible for 60% of Mexico’s leather exports, are focused on automotive leather now.
They are supplying automotive groups including Nissan, Ford and Chevrolet, all of whom have set up in Guanajuato’s automotive hub.
